POSITIVE ASPECTS: streets

Navigating the streets of Rocinha favela showed how well connected and walkable the place is. There are primary streets shared by cars, mopeds and pedestrians, which exhibit a certain level of mutual respect between uses of different modes of travel and create a feeling of safety on foot. There are narrower secondary streets shared by mopeds and pedestrians, which still offer shops, cafés and other services. Then there are pedestrian only streets, or alleys, which tend to be solely housing, much quieter and interlink flexibly between primary and secondary streets.
